One hundred of our year 10 students have visited the University of East London. They toured the university and viewed facilities and student accommodation. They also took part in a lecture and a law “taster” session. “Brilliant experience”, “Really excited” and “Can’t wait to go to uni” were just some of the very positive comments received. In turn UEL said that SRS students were ”Excellent”. Miss Neave Aim Higher Co-ordinator |

PROUD TO WEAR OUR UNIFORM |
Our recent OFSTED inspectors congratulated us on the appearance of our students and the high standard of dress we expect. We want to thank those parents who have supported us in implementing our uniform policy by ensuring that their children are in correct uniform and ready for school. Parental support is vital to maintain our increasing high standards and professional appearance. Details of correct school uniform are published in our student homework diary for parents and students to consult. Our image rests on students being proud to be part of our school community. Sydney Russell is celebrating after being awarded specialist media arts college status by the Government—one of only 18 London schools to succeed this term. The new status means that the school will receive £850,000 in extra funds over the next 4 years, to boost achievement even further, particularly in Media Studies, ICT and Art, as well as providing a Media Arts van, equipped with laptops and digital video cameras to visit local schools and community groups. |
Headteacher Roger Leighton said: “This is recognition of the dramatic progress the school has made over the last few years and a vote of confidence from the Government in our ability to move ahead even further. We are keen to develop an international dimension to our specialism, and we are exploring links with the USA and Europe to give our students an even more exciting new perspective on their studies. My thanks to Mr Hancock and his bid team and to our sponsors– Microsoft, Jack Petchey and the PTFA.” |
