Media Studies students from Sydney Russell were bubbling over with ideas when they visited the headquarters of soft drink manufacturer Vimto to pitch their ideas for a brand new advertising campaign. Ten GNVQ students from the school, visited the Warrington Head Office of soft drinks producer J Nichols on Friday 31st April to present their ideas for a project campaign which aims to link the soft drink product with fashion labels and music icons. The students also looked at diversifying the advertising mediums to include the internet and text messaging to widen its appeal to the younger market. Glenn Hudson, Managing Director of Vimto Soft Drinks and Claire Nield, the Vimto Brand Manager, received a 30-minute presentation from the students which outlined their concepts and strategies. After undertaking market research to explore and determine what appeals to young people, the media students known as 'The SRS Agency', opted for a campaign of TV commercials backed by a theme tune by pop act The Pussy Cat Dolls. The commercials would concentrate on the sophisticated and positive image factor associated with the drink, and it was hoped this would still appeal to the product's existing market while attracting a new target audience of 15 to 25 year olds. |

The Vimto team and their advertising executive, Russ Vine, were extremely impressed with the presentation and the ideas put forward and the students were presented with certificates of participation and goody bags. The visit was organised as part of a new European Social Fund initiative to develop opportunities for young people in the cultural and creative industries. The success of our students in this real life media experience is a good example of why the school has been awarded Specialist School status in the Media Arts and in the future, students in the school will have more exciting opportunities to work with a range of media professionals to help enhance their learning and possible career routes. |

The summer examinations for GCSE and A Level courses have begun and we hope that everyone is doing their very best to gain the highest possible grades. We realise that this is a stressful time for students and parents but we also know how proud everyone will be when the results are published in August and students get their results. Good luck everyone! |
