Text Box: Sydney Russell School is now officially sponsored by Microsoft as part of its bid to gain Specialist School Status in the Media Arts. The three proposed Specialist Subjects are Media Studies, Art and Design and ICT but specialist status will provide a huge range of facilities, resources and events for all students in every subject throughout the school as well as for the local community. Microsoft has committed to providing the school with free software, updates and licenses for the next four years which will make sure that our students have access to the best possible ICT resources to help raise their attainment in all of their lessons. Microsoft will Text Box: also be sending experts to the school to give advice to students and parents about safe use of the Internet and other ICT related issues. We are proud to be a Microsoft partner but we still need to raise more sponsorship to help gain Specialist Status –if you are part of a local company or business who would like to become one of our sponsorship partners contributing any amount of money, however large or small, please contact us and we will discuss the benefits you could gain from involvement in our Text Box: Early in the Autumn Term the school holds an Open Evening and Open Mornings for prospective year 6 students and their parents. This Year our evening was held just three weeks into the term and it was particularly exciting as not only was the Headteacher able to inform our visitors of the excellent examination results, but it was also an opportunity for them to view the marvellous facilities in the new Durrant building and the recently refurbished Sixth Form Centre. Staff and student guides were on hand to ensure all who attended gained a good ‘snapshot’ impression of all that is now on offer. As always, feedback was very positive and all students who participated proved themselves to be a credit to the school and to their families. More pictures on page 2...
