Healthy School Status |
|
Our school looks forward to achieving ‘Healthy Schools Status’. The awarding body has looked at the activities and facilities we make available, as well as the messages sent out by the school to students and parents to ensure a healthier lifestyle. The audit also included all aspects of health from physical activity to healthy eating to emotional support and relationships. We are pleased to write that we meet the standards for the status. The Schools Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) includes students, teachers, catering staff as well as representatives from the Local Education Authority. It has looked at the food on offer around the school and the environment in which pupils and staff eat. Other working parties have been set up. One is tasked with producing artwork for the canteen. Another has designed leaflets on healthy packed lunches and a third is looking into growing some of our own vegetables possibly for use in the canteen. Any ideas that students have about improving the eating facilities around the school should be put on the student voice and will be discussed at SNAG meetings. |

Packed Lunches The government has laid down strict guidelines for canteen meals in schools to make them healthier. There is now a need for schools to advise students and parents about packed lunches. Packed lunches need to be just as nutritious and well balanced as any other meal. Grabbing a packet of crisps, chocolate bar and can of coke is not just bad for you but also can affect your learning ability in afternoon lessons. |
