Text Box: On a very rainy morning in October, we (Year 12) set off on a visit to the University of Kent. When we got there we split into small groups and were given a tour of the Canterbury campus by one of its students. We got to see the halls of residence, the classrooms, the library (which has over a million books!) and many other facilities. My friends and I all agreed that the campus had a great atmosphere and that we would all consider this university when choosing one next year.
After the tour we listened to a talk on the advantages of studying at university and the financial side of university life. I found both talks incredibly informative and helpful.

Year 12 at Kent University

Next, we went to the cafeteria for lunch and were quite impressed by the wide range of choices available (and the ketchup dispenser!)

Lastly we attended a physics lecture and, to the surprise of many of us, it was the highlight of our day! We were shown lots of different experiments (many of which we were invited to take part in) and we all took great pleasure in  testing the "magic" green ice cream!

The journey home flew by with a few games of charades (how bizarre) and almost everyone agreed that the day had been a fun and interesting insight into university life.

Outdoor Education

Year  11 Sports Studies group attended a number of sessions on a range of water sports at the Docklands Centre this term. These included: canoeing, sailing, dragon boating and raft building.  The group enjoyed working and ‘playing’ in a completely different environment.  They saw the value of team work, patience and commitment in achieving a task.  They hope to begin climbing next term.

A small group of selected students also attended an eight week kayaking course at UEL.  As a result of  this, William Isbell was selected to represent the Borough at the Youth Games held at Crystal Palace.

Cricket

Five students have been selected for the District Cricket trials this year.  William Isbell, Karl Scammell, James Bird, Dale Williams and Scott Brooks.    It is a gruelling selection procedure, with high level cricketers from around the borough and we wish them good luck.
