The website has information about all courses on offer within the Southern Consortium. This year The Jo Richardson Community School joins the Southern Consortium. This expansion makes it possible to increase the  number of courses available at all levels in 16 Plus.

Sponsorship

On Tuesday 23rd January our school was honoured by the visit of Sir Cyril Taylor, the head of the Specialist School and Academies Trust. The Trust is one of the most important educational organisations in the country. Sydney Russell School’s achievement in becoming a recognised Specialist School in the Media Arts was further reinforced by this visit. Sir Cyril visited lessons in all of the specialist subjects: Media Studies, Art, Photography and ICT and was very impressed with the quality of teaching and learning and extra curricular activities that he saw. Sir Cyril also spoke to a range of our students who were invited to his lunch time presentation and was very happy to hear how much they enjoyed being at Sydney Russell School.

The main purpose of Sir Cyril’s visit was to present the school with a £50, 000 sponsorship cheque and this presentation to the school governors and Mr Leighton took place in the school library at lunchtime. This cheque was a personal donation from Mr Martin Sullivan, who is the chairman of the largest insurance company in America, called AIG, which is also the current sponsor of Manchester United football club. Mr Sullivan, who was a former pupil at one of the schools which amalgamated to eventually form the Sydney Russell school, personally provided the sponsorship cheque in order to put something back into the community which made him what he is today. We are extremely grateful for his financial contribution to the school, which will, of course, help provide even more resources to help the continual improvement in our students’ learning. We would like to offer our warmest thanks to both Sir Cyril Taylor and Mr Martin Sullivan for their support of our school.
