On Friday 16th March, Sydney Russell School had the pleasure of welcoming 52 students and 5 teachers, from Collège Félicien Joly which is located outside of Lille in the north of France. The French students, aged between 13-15 years, spent time learning about our school, our new Media Arts status and were given a background to Comic Relief and why so many of our students were dressed in pyjamas and wearing red noses!! Each student went to a lesson with one of our 6th formers to get a feel for school life in England. After a tour of the school many of the French students commented on how different Sydney Russell was from Collège Félicien Joly and how they much preferred school life in England! Our visitors were very impressed by the number of computers we have, how the digital projectors are used and thought that the videos they had watched, produced by Sydney Russell students, were fantastic! Our thanks goes to Ms De Longhi for organising the day, to Mr D Anderson for providing the use of the 16+ centre and to all our teachers, 6th formers and students who welcomed our French guests, and made their brief stay with us such an enjoyable one. Before the French group left, Mr Leighton presented them with a certificate to welcome them as one of our Global Partners. Each student was also given a gift to help them remember their day at Sydney Russell - a blue polo t-shirt! Miss C. Rickard |
