Greetings from Watoto Child Ministries.

Thank you so much for your generous donation of £100 to Watoto Child Care Ministries from The Sydney Russell School. We are so grateful for your practical care, and it is very much appreciated.

We received an email from our office in Kampala, which listed a number of projects that they are seeking funding for. One is for the installation of an electricity supply to the Nursery at Suubi Children’s Village, and we intend to designate your donation, along with others that we have received, to this project. I am delighted to assure you that your donation will make a difference in the lives of the children in our care.

Thank you again for your support for the Watoto Child Care Ministries.

With kind regards,

Chas Musgrave

We are proud to say that it was our students who won the 11 Million Takeover Day, Decision Making Competition.

Eight Sydney Russell geography students, selected from Years 11-13, enthralled the judges with their presentations on 23rd November at HEDRA Management Consultants, Westminster, LondonThey snatched the victory in this prestigious competition.

During the day students from Barking and Dagenham schools worked as a team to explore: ‘How Barking and Dagenham could maximise the opportunities offered by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics?’ Students were supported by professionals from HEDRA and officers from the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.  Each team prepared a 15 minute presentation, encapsulating their views on the issue, for the final at the end of the day.

The competition was judged by Roger Luxton, LBBD Director of Children’s services; Rob Whitehead, Chief Executive of Barking and Dagenham; an ODA representative and Chief Executive of HEDRA Management Consultancy.

The quality of the winning, Sydney Russell School, students’ presentation was described by the judges as exceptionally well delivered and incredibly professional.  All eight of the winning students (pictured) were presented with a certificate and an IPod nano. Mr Roberts, the accompanying teacher, remarked, ‘the students were an absolute credit to Sydney Russell.  Their presentation was exceptionally well organised and calmly led, by Michael Rooke, in nerve-racking conditions. A truly team-focused performance!’

The winning team: Michael Rooke (Leader), Hayley Salmon, Abbigail Jones, Enian Baku, Emily Hart, Rachael Tijana, Greg Patten, Seki Ojetola and Mr Roberts.

Mr Roberts and the students would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Anderson who gave up her time to accompany us and to Mr Sullivan for grasping the opportunity to participate.
