On Wednesday 21^st November students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, were entertained and informed by the London Bus Theatre Company who staged four separate performances of their “Nutter” show, which explores issues of anti-social behaviour and bullying.

The 50 minute performance followed the story of a group of bullying and violent students and their treatment by the Young Offenders team. There were chances for students to contribute and make their thoughts known about the characters and incidents they witnessed as the story unfolded. The show finished with the request that bullied people seek help and tell others about their situation. They should not “suffer in silence”, as brave individuals need to stand-up for those who are being tormented.

This show was booked by the school as the centrepiece event of National Anti-Bullying Week (19^th-23^rd November). There was the chance for students to buy “Beat-bullying” friendship bands along with entry into the school anti-bullying poetry competition which was open to all years. Form tutors had the chance to show a detailed anti-bullying power point which recapped where and how students could access support if they feel they are being bullied.

Mr Sullivan, Director of Student Development at the school expressed his satisfaction at the weeks’ events adding “We take any incidents of bullying extremely seriously and will continue to do so. Bullying will not be tolerated at the Sydney Russell School”.
