Building for the Future |

|
In May, our Year 13 with the Headteacher and a number of staff, celebrated the end of their A Level courses with a special lunch. Prizes were awarded to students who had been outstanding in their subject areas. Prizes went to Emma Flewers for Art and Photography, Emma East for Art, Michael Rooke for Government and Politics and Jennifer Lewis for English. Mr Holloway (known as Mr. UCAS) provided entertainment by giving prestigious leavers awards which are highly valued and monumental; and would fetch a handsome sum on Ebay!!! Many photos were taken, one of which will be used to track our leavers progress and pathways. Tafara Makuni is hoping her pathway will lead her to being the first Sydney Russell student to attend Cambridge University to read Engineering. |

Farewell to Year 13 |
|
It has been another fantastic year for us all! We celebrated our best ever examination results in September 2007 and are looking forward to improving upon them in 2008. This year’s summer examination results will be released in August and we expect them to be good. Behind the scenes, planning is well underway for making further improvements to the school’s infrastructure. The government’s Building School’s For the Future project will mean brand new buildings with state of the art computer facilities for all curriculum areas. Larger classrooms and a remodelling of the school entrance will

give our school a new environment for working towards even higher results. If all goes to plan, the work will begin within 18 months and will take approximately two years to complete. The new Year 7’s join us in September and they promise to be a very successful year group. All our places at Sydney Russell have been taken and we have a waiting list for students to join our school. As the academic year draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, parents, staff and students for all their work and support over the year. Roger Leighton (Headteacher) |
