For the 4th year Sydney Russell School took to the slopes in March for a week of skiing/snowboarding in Austria – what a fantastic week it was!  Loads of snow, great instructors, hours of skiing, dancing and singing topped off by a HUGE snowball fight. Our students did our school proud.  Everyone had a great time and letters are already out for next year! (Available from student services)

For a glimpse of some of the fun, photos can be found in the School Photos folder. Fancy joining in?  Get a letter today!

Ski Trip 2008

To celebrate our International School status a group of Year 7 students who attended the After School Cooking Club completed 5 sessions of sampling and cooking many delights from around the world. Mr Hancock, Mr. D. Anderson and members of the English, Science, IT and P.E. departments all came to give their support and sample the students cooking. The room was decorated appropriately and students were given flags and information on each country. Parents made very positive comments and were delighted with the results; some even came and assisted the students to clean up. To reinforce our links with China we made a stir fry using traditional ingredients not  normally used in English cooking. Students were able to take the recipes home to practice their cooking skills on the whole family!! This was a successful activity that will hopefully be repeated again.

Cooking Club

Sydney Russell students had the opportunity to complete a one day training session for ‘Baby Life Saver Training’. This is the third year that this training has taken place and each year it has been successful. The training was very practical and some students were literally ‘tied up’ in bandages! Students received a certificate which lasts 3 years and can go on and complete other training in this area. This is an invaluable life skill that students can use to assist them in their life and career options.

Life Skill Classes

A new system for merits and rewards will be launched in September. Final details for the computerisation of the merit system are being put in place and it will ensure that every student is automatically awarded a merit in every lesson. Staff will however be able to remove merits and add commendations.

The new system will include a qualifying target for students to reach before being considered for end of year trips.

More on the new system, will be announced in whole school assemblies and the school newsletter in September.
