Sydney Russell School students continue to make huge improvements to their achievement. Their hard work is being recognised both locally and nationally. 67% of students achieved five or more A*-C GCSE grades, an increase of 18% over the previous year.

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham held its annual ceremony for high achievement and both GCSE and A level students were congratulated for achieving excellent grades in their examination subjects.

London’s Schools organised a red carpet film event in Leicester Square.  Students from Sydney Russell were invited to walk the red carpet, meet dignitaries and see the student premier of The Golden Compass. The event in Leicester Square had all of the trappings of a major film premier.

Students were photographed by the press with their own Oscar award before attending a glitzy pre-show party with non- alcoholic cocktails and canapés. After the film students were given a goodie bag to take home.

Ms Davies (Deputy Headteacher) said: “We are very pleased to be recognised as one of the most improved schools in the borough. We have all worked very hard to get to where we are today. The GCSE results are excellent news for students, staff and parents”

We are now preparing for his year’s examinations. Student in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 are all working hard and we look forward to building on our success.
