In March the final concert in the Signals project took place at the Barbican Concert Hall . All the students who participated enjoyed a marvellous experience that included performing a newly composed piece which they had completed the previous weekend. Other highlights included performing in the finale with the Guildhall Symphonic Wind ensemble. The concert platform was filled with over 300 performers. A number of the CMS students performed solos as part of their composition which was successful and well received by a full Barbican audience. We would like to thank all those involved and are grateful for the support given throughout the Signals project. It began at school and moved successfully to a 4 day ½ term course at the Music Centre. From there it developed into a concert at the Guildhall School of Music and finally to the concert in the Barbican. It was a thrilling climax. Digby S. Hunt. Deputy Head Community Music Service |

BIG TOOTH FILM PITCH
Sydney Russell’s Big Tooth Studios have been lucky enough to secure the opportunity to produce a documentary film promoting ‘Regeneration in the Borough of Barking & Dagenham’ for the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation after a successful pitch last Monday. Big Tooth Studios are a group of 14 students from Sydney Russell’s Level 3 OCR National Diploma Course in Media who had to swallow their nerves to deliver the presentation to John Middleton, Head of Operations, Skills & Economic Development for LTGDC and Charlie Mawer from Red Bee Media at the LTGDC’s Dockland’s head office. Big Tooth Productions have spent the past 3 months preparing for this pitch which involved examples of the shooting style, content, music and animations that will be included in the final documentary due for completion in July. The LTGDC recognised the excellent digital film making skills of Media Arts Specialist School, Sydney Russell and will be funding the project to support and further future student’s academic achievement. Mr Middleton was extremely pleased with the student’s performance saying “Big Tooth Productions presented their ideas and work both clearly and concisely, demonstrating the skills they have all developed. It was especially pleasing to see the high level of team working they had all achieved….I have high expectations of what the Big Tooth Film crew will achieve with this project”. Mr Mawer was equally impressed with what he called a “really slick pitch” from the creative youngsters who are now working flat out to complete the documentary in time for a launch event in July.
