Year 9 students attended 2012 Careers Fair where they watched a theatre presentation and took part in workshops about the impact of the Olympic Games on business and job opportunities in the local area.

Amy Smith thought the presentation was “Great!”

Luke Clark said it was useful to find out about jobs he could consider in the future.

Two classes of Year 6 pupils from Roding Primary School came up for an editing workshop at Sydney Russell as part of their Digital Images ICT unit.

In the two workshops lead by Miss Varndall, the students had to create an advert encouraging people to take up dancing.  Using Windows Movie Maker to edit down selected clips and add music and effects, the pupils created a wide range of adverts in pairs.

Feedback was positive from staff and students alike with comments from Roding pupils such as “we enjoyed the editing workshop today and going to a different school and using different equipment”, “Sydney Russell is a nice place, all the teachers are nice and I like the flash computers” and “we enjoyed putting transitions and adding effects together to make it (the advert) more interesting and enjoyable”.

A big thank you goes to Mr Johnson, Mr Hastilow and Mr Vilisak for all their help!

YOUNG FILM EDITORS IN THE MAKING!

SRS’ Media Resource team went to film and photograph the Parental Walkabout at Parsloes Primary School last half term.  They covered the various activities on offer to current and potential parents including singing, arts and crafts, a lesson in a Victorian classroom and a podcasting taster session.  The Victorian classroom was particularly entertaining with Parsloes’ teachers leading a lesson from the 19th Century for students, parents and staff.  The highlight was when an especially disruptive Teaching Assistant had to stand in the corner wearing a dunce’s hat!
