Fantastic Results Again! |
This has been another fantastic year for students, staff and parents at Sydney Russell as our exam results go through the 60% barrier. GCSE results (5 or more A*-C grades) leapt from 50% in 2006 to 66% this summer. No year 11 student left without a GCSE qualification, it was a 100% success rate. Headteacher Roger Leighton commented: “These results confirm our place amongst the top performing borough schools and are a tribute to the hard work and commitment of staff, students , parents and governors. Sydney Russell is a superbly equipped and well disciplined school with high quality teachers and support staff.” |

Not only a Specialist School but also an International School |
Sydney Russell School has recently been awarded the Intermediate International School Award by The British Council because of the international activities that take place in the curriculum of every subject and because the school has good working links with partner schools in Beijing in China, Lahore in Pakistan and a range of European schools. Sydney Russell is the only school in the Local Authority to have achieved an International Award. In the second week of September our students experienced more international activities in our second annual International Week. We believe it is vitally important to provide our students with an informed awareness of countries, cultures and languages other than our own to ensure that our students are provided with events for the promotion of equal opportunities, racial equality and global citizenship. One of the key extra curricular events in the International week was a visit from The Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda on Tuesday 11th September. Through the inclusion of an international focus at Sydney Russell School we are enhancing teaching and learning throughout the school; we are able to offer to our students a range of experiences that will enhance their learning and raise awareness of their national and international identity and we are able to provide staff with professional development by sharing ideas, practice and processes with partner schools in other countries. |
