Text Box: Re-designation
Success!

Sydney Russell School has been a Media Arts Specialist School for three years. Its specialist subjects are Media Studies, Art and Design, Photography and ICT. One of our achievements this year has been that the D.C.S.F. and the Specialist Schools and Academies trust have re-designated our school as a specialist school. They were impressed with all our activities and our plans for the future. To be re-designated, our school had to demonstrate that it had met all of the requirements of the Specialist School Programme. These included setting and achieving challenging targets for whole-school improvement, raising standards in the specialist subjects and delivering purposeful support for partner schools and community-based activities. We are proud to say that we have met all of the requirements and so we will continue to be a Specialist School.

Our specialism has supported the raising of standards of attainment and achievement not only in the specialist subjects, but across the whole curriculum.  It has also developed the curriculum in relation to creativity, applied and work related learning. Through our specialism learning has been has been enriched and Media Arts status has contributed positively to our school’s distinctive ethos.

Our specialist school status has allowed us to contribute to the learning outcomes of pupils in both our primary and secondary partner schools, as well as the wider community.

The London Regional Specialist Arts Network has been impressed with the work of our schools. They were  particularly delighted with our Age Swap film project which demonstrated how our students work effectively with the members of Kingsley Hall.  The project has been shown on the community channel and also presented to London government ministers. This  project will soon be available for everyone to see on our website. We are also hoping to release several  other of our specialist projects as well as  some of our specialist film work. All of this is evidence of the high achievement that our students  continue to make and the reason why the DCSF and  Specialist Schools and Academies Trust were pleased to re-designate Sydney Russell School  as a Media Arts Specialist School.
