As a result of the fundraising events to support the Year 10 rugby trip to The International Junior Rugby Festival in Disneyland Paris, we've got some good news to share with you all. Overall, through the generosity of the staff and students of SRS and the support of senior management, we raised £1,800 to put towards their trip. It's a tremendous amount and we'd like to thank all the people who have helped us achieve  this total, particularly those who put their bodies on the line by taking part in the Staff v Student rugby game!

The trip is  a wonderful opportunity for our team to compete in a unique and exciting tournament against other schools, meet and talk to boys their own age from radically different backgrounds and benefit from the expert coaching offered by past greats of the game.

We will keep you up-to-date with developments in the tournament.

Well after a ferocious game of touch rugby everyone at Sydney Russell School can hold their heads up high. Both teams on the pitch desperately wanted to win in front of 450+ spectators and set a frantic pace. The game was hard but fair and played in the right spirit. Everyone knew that they were playing to raise money for the Year 10 Rugby team’s trip to The International Junior Rugby Festival in Disneyland Paris and were keen to be involved. Everyone is rightly proud of our rugby team and supports them whenever they can.

 

In front of a noisy, partisan crowd, the teachers took an early lead through quick hands and a masterful, swerving, lightning run along the touchline. The students came back towards the end of the first half with two, well-orchestrated tries, which showed their organisation and experience. Trailing into the second half the teachers put in a big effort and managed to rob another try, again courtesy of hard graft and expansive play against a tough student’s defence. In the last ten minutes, with the crowd crying for a result, the student’s managed to get over the line, to record the win. The video of the game is sure to be scrutinised closely, as there was a suspicion of ‘a foot in touch’, but……
