Important Reminder

We would like to remind everyone NOT to    come onto school premises to drop off or collect students in their cars. The front gate and playground are very busy areas both before and after school. The dropping off and collection of students should be outside of the school. premises.

On 9th March 2010 Summa Daines, Brian Ntekolo-Mayunga, Charlotte Gillett, Elizabeth Aina, Michael Emeribe and James Odukoya gave their debut performances on the main stage at the Barbican Centre alongside big names such as Elvis Costello, Madness and Jools Holland. Their appearance marked the culmination of a two month long song writing partnership run with the Barbican Centre. Students worked with a team of professional song writers and musicians led by Chris Difford (ex Squeeze) to compose their own songs about the area they live in.

Schools from across East London took part in this series of workshops and all the songs were showcased in the Conservatory at the Barbican on Sunday 7th March 2010 as part of the ‘Do Something Different Festival’. In scenes reminiscent of X Factor, two songs were then selected to be performed in the professional concert, and of course, both were from Sydney Russell.

This was an amazing opportunity for our students to work in a top quality professional setting with complete technical support; they even got a mention in the Daily Telegraph review of the concert the following morning.

Soloist Summa Daines said:

“I was petrified but really wanted to show everyone what I’m made of. I was so proud of what I had achieved not just for me but for my school and family too. I ‘d love to do it again”.

Drummer and co-composer of ‘We’re Talking London’ Michael Emeribe jumped off stage and could not stop jumping after rehearsal

‘I was just absolutely amazed that we had been given this amazing opportunity” he said.

JACK PETCHEY GATEWAY 2 MUSIC AT SADLERS WELLS

As if two London performances were not enough for one week, on Thursday 11th March our school singing group and selected musicians performed in a concert staged by the East London Music Services to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Jack Petchey Foundation at Sadlers Wells.

The evening was hosted by Clare Sweeney and combined a number of pieces composed especially for the evening as well as a more traditional repertoire. The highlight of the evening was a massed choral performance involving 200 singers of  ‘Dig Deep’ composed for the group by Pete Churchill.
