Examinations

2010

The summer examinations for GCSE and ‘A’ Level courses have begun and we hope that everyone is doing their very best to gain the highest possible grades. We realise that this is a stressful time for students and parents but we also know how proud everyone will be when the results are published in August and our students achieve their potential.

Good Luck Everyone!

We would like to remind everyone NOT to    come onto school premises to drop off or collect students in their cars. The front gate and playground are very busy areas both before and after school. The dropping off and collection of students should be outside of the school premises.

Important Reminder

On Friday 19th March Lord Haskel made a visit to our 6th form to speak to our ‘A’ Level politics students about the work and functions of the modern House of Lords in Parliament.

Students taking ‘A’ level politics in the other schools of the Southern Consortium were also invited to attend with the result that we were able to greet visitors from the Eastbury and Jo Richardson schools.

Lord Haskel gave a short presentation followed by an extended question and answer session in which he gave students more detail about his own work and discussed future possible reforms and changes to the House of Lords.

The event was planned by Mr Sullivan who teaches AS politics in our 6th form. “I wanted our students to meet a real-life parliamentarian in order for him to explain at first-hand what it is like to work in Parliament and give our students a clear insight into the ways that the House of Lords works with the House of Commons.”

“The idea is to organise more events like this to complement their studies for the  ‘A’ level examinations.”

The head of our 6th form, Mr Anderson was very pleased with the insightful and probing questions our students asked Lord Haskel. He expressed his satisfaction at being one of the first schools in the consortium to host an event such as this, in which students taking the same subject in other schools have the chance to take part.

Perhaps the last word should be left to Lord Haskel himself, “It was a pleasure to meet you all. I am encouraged to see that so many young people have an enthusiasm for parliamentary politics.”
