ASDAN and Enrichment Programme |
Students are encouraged to support younger pupils, and many act as classroom support, together with assisting in Primary Schools and local organisations associated with Senior Citizens. Such activities contribute towards the "Skills for Life" Award.
The ASDAN Gold and Universities Award programme is offered to students, providing them with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their ability in a range of skills and personal challenges through student-based activities. This award is valued by both employers and tutors in Further/Higher Education, providing students with an important complementary qualification in the Wider Key Skills.
What is the Enrichment Programme?
The Enrichment Programme requires Sixth Form students to become involved in extra curriculum activities. That is, activities that are not part of their teaching timetable.
Who has to take part in the Enrichment Programme?
All Year 12 Sixth Formers are activly encouraged to take part in an enrichment activity. The Programme is compulsory unless a student is completing a re-sit GCSE English or Maths subject.
It is not compulsory for those students who are re-sitting GCSE English and Maths. However, these students are still encouraged to take part as the Programme is beneficial for all students.
What do you actually have to do?
There are a number of enrichment activities on offer at The Southern Consortium Sixth Form. The Programme continues to develop and the activities on offer may change from year to year.
The following activities are likely to be available:
• Paired reading with primary school children in the borough
• Paired reading with Year 7 pupils within Sydney Russell School/Dagenham Park Community School
• Physical education activities, such as football and ice skating
• Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
• Young Enterprise Scheme
