Welcome to the 16+ Online Tutor Room

This is the home page for students and parents to find information about pastoral welfare and life in the 16+ area of the school. We have also provided links to websites that offer additional information, help and advice beyond what we offer at school.

Year 11 students can now apply on-line by visiting the Southern Consortium eProspectus Website.

Aims of the Southern Consortium

• To provide a well ordered, secure and stimulating learning environment in which students can enjoy the challenge of achieving the highest possible academic standards.

• To strive for excellence in teaching and learning so that students develop a love of learning which will be lifelong, to widen their perspectives and prepare them with the skills needed in the rapidly changing world in which we live.

• To provide a caring learning community, free from fear and harassment, in which students can develop as confident and self-disciplined learners, who are open-minded, tolerant and mutually respectful.

• To encourage all students to strive for different types of achievement, which will be valued, recognised and celebrated.

• To develop the partnership between school, students and parents in order to maximise learning opportunities both in and out of school, and foster the feeling that learning is both an exciting and a life-long process.

Our Expectations of Students

The Southern Consortium sets high standards for work and behaviour and our students are expected to demonstrate self-discipline in order to achieve their best. They are also expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner at all times. All students benefit from discipline and routine.

We therefore promote self-discipline, good study habits and a positive attitude to work. When students have the right attitude to learning they will both enjoy their time at the Consortium and be better able to achieve their full potential.

The Southern Consortium aims to provide a Sixth Form which gives all students the opportunity to develop both personally and academically. The consortium seeks to provide an appropriate and relevant academic curriculum to meet the needs of all Sixth Form students.

It is expected that all students will be positive and responsible members of the consortium community, adhering to the Sixth Form Dress Code and acting as role models for younger students.

Each student will have a timetable appropriate to their individual requirements, and will be encouraged to use any non-contact time in a manner which is beneficial to both their academic and personal development.

All Sixth Form students will be given every encouragement to succeed at their courses of study through attending regularly, being punctual and being present in lessons for at least 95% of curriculum time.

Sixth Form Student Planners will be used as a positive source of evidence concerning students' use of time and completion of work.

Each student will be provided with regular progress updates, and parents will be informed should there be any major cause for concern.

It is the consortium's aim to provide all Sixth Form students with academic and careers guidance for both employment and Higher Education so that each individual is fully prepared in planning their future pathway.

The consortium will endeavour to provide students with a stimulating environment which encourages the personal development of the individual by providing the opportunity for:

Through being a member of the Sixth Form, it is hoped that each student will respond to the opportunity to develop as individuals and reach their true academic potential in preparation for life in the adult world.

Use of non-contact lessons.

Each student will notice that there are a number of periods on their timetable each week when they do not have lessons.

Students will be expected to use some of these free periods to complete enrichment activities and their ASDAN or Progress File portfolios. However students are expected to use the majority of their free periods to complete private study.

Each course offered in the Southern Consortium Sixth Form expects students to complete study both during free periods during the school day and at home in the evenings and at weekends.

Use of Sixth Form Areas

Each school within the Southern Consortium has a designated Sixth Form area for the use of Sixth Form students. Facilities available for the use of Sixth Formers within each school will vary slightly but will include some or all of the following:

• Computer Suite

• Study area

• Vending machines

• Relaxation area

• Toilets

• Seminar rooms

The facilities are essentially for the use of Sixth Form students. Please respect and look after the facilities that you have been provided with.

Discipline

Our aim is to develop students' self-discipline and encourage mature, responsible behaviour. The Southern Consortium has clear expectations for students' behaviour - both inside the classroom and around the buildings.
